Our bilingual wedding ceremony

Our bilingual wedding ceremony

For anyone that couldn’t be with us on our wedding day, you can now ‘read’ your way through our ceremony. Keep in mind that this text does not include all of the pauses for laughter, the tears or the audience reactions. It is a subpar version of what actually happened, but you can certainly use your imagination 😉

Word of Welcome

On behalf of Maxime and Teaville, I welcome you all and thank you for being here.

They are delighted to have you share in their joy during this wonderful moment in their lives.

Je m’appelle FaĂŻz et j’ai le privilĂšge de cĂ©lĂ©brer leur cĂ©rĂ©monie de mariage aujourd’hui.

Address to the assembly
Today, Maxime and Teaville’s relationship is formalized. It is a day in which they demonstrate their commitment, devotion and mutual respect for each other.

De par votre prĂ©sence, vous cĂ©lĂ©brez avec eux l’amour qu’ils ont trouvĂ© et vous appuyez leur dĂ©cision de s’engager Ă  l’un l’autre pour le reste de leur vie.

As witnesses of their commitment, you are called to continue your support and encouragement to them throughout their marriage.

Reading 1: Melanie

I would now like to welcome Teaville’s mom, Melanie, who will read to the couple.

Neither the husband nor the wife should attempt to exercise over the other an arbitrary control.  Do not try to compel each other to yield to your wishes.  You cannot do this and retain each other’s love.  Be kind, patient and forbearing, considerate and courteous.  By the grace of God you can succeed in making each other happy, as in your marriage vows you promise to do.

In your life union your affections are to be tributary to each other’s happiness.  Each is to minister to the happiness of the other.  This is the will of God concerning you.  But while you are to blend as one, neither of you is to lose his or her individuality in the other.

Reading 2: Sarah

I would now like to invite a friend of Maxime and Teaville, Sarah, who will also read to the couple.

(Our friend Sarah surprised us with a reading of “Can you feel the love tonight”, which was read and sung by some of our friends in the audience!)

There’s a calm surrender to the rush of day
When the heat of the rolling world can be turned away
An enchanted moment, and it sees me through
It’s enough for this restless warrior just to be with you
And can you feel the love tonight
It is where we are
It’s enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
That we got this far
And can you feel the love tonight
How it’s laid to rest
It’s enough to make kings and vagabonds
Believe the very best
There’s a time for everyone if they only learn
That the twisting kaleidoscope moves us all in turn
There’s a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors
When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours

Teaville, you have chosen Maxime to be your wife. Will you love her and respect her? Will you be honest with her always? Will you stand by her through whatever may come? Will you let her find deals and discounts, for as long as you both shall live? (Answer: I will)
Maxime, you have chosen Teaville to be your husband. Will you love him and respect him? Will you be honest with him always? Will you stand by him through whatever may come? Will you let him play video games as long as you both shall live? (Answer: I will)
Both: Do both of you promise to love and cherish one another, put up with each other, and let your experiences in the world fuel the fire of the love you share (we do)

Affirmation of family and friends
Now, I want to ask your families and friends a question:

Est-ce que vous tous ici présents consentez à ce mariage?

Do you, the families and friends of Maxime and Teaville, give them your blessing and support, wishing them a wonderful life together? (All answer: ‘We do’)

This is my vow, a promise that we can hold dear,
An opportunity to make my intentions clear,

I’ll always be for you, and you’ll always be mine,
And our love will outlast the test of time,

And our ship will weather the storms and the plight,
Our love will be a beacon in the dark of the night,

You were the hand of courage at the side of my bed,
And you made me feel alive when I was almost dead,

Seven years ago I crafted you a band out of string,
I slipped it on your finger, and sealed it with a kiss,
I made a vow to you that day, without saying a thing,
And for the rest of my days, I’ll keep that promise

Teav, today you become my husband. After 7 years of thinking about it, I think it’s safe to say that you are my favourite person and I choose to spend the rest of my life with you. You make me so happy.

I vow to snuggle you as often as possible
I want to start each day by your side and end them all with you.
You will always be my sandwich artist
Let’s keep having stories that we can’t tell our friends
I think you know what I’m trying to say

I promise to treat you with kindness, respect, appreciation and silliness.
I promise to never go to bed angry.
Let’s get really, really, really old together.
Thank you for marrying me

Exchange of rings

Maxime, I give you this ring as a symbol of our love. May it remind you always, of the promises we have exchanged today.
Teaville, I give you this ring as a symbol of our love. May it remind you always of the promises we have made this day.

Now may those who wear these rings live in love all their days.
